The original Haymount House was built by Wall Street financier William Fuller with a Southern Antebellum motif to remind him of his hometown in North Carolina. It is now The Briarcliff Manor restaurant and catering facility, which has the great reviews to go with the ambiance of that opulent era.
What had been the extensive grounds rolling up the gentle slopes leading to Haymount was subdivided and developed in the 1960s, with mostly Split Level and Colonial homes on 1/3 to 1/2 acre lots. The builder wanted to make the area distinctive and made the homes on a bit grander scale than most development homes, with some extra discretionary space, storage and stone accents. The gentle slopes and great light from up on the hill set the theme.
