Scarborough is a hamlet located in the Town of Ossining, the Village of Briarcliff and the Ossining School District. It started as mostly large estates. Because of the gorgeous Hudson river views that much of the area affords as it sits on a bluff above the Hudson River, there was such demand for lots that the large estates were mostly subdivided around 1900. Each of the homes were custom built, although several of the best builders built more than one of them.
These are homes of distinction that are generally 4,000 s/f or more, with 1/2 acre of land and a view of the bucolic neighborhood and the Hudson River. You will find that Scarborough Road is lined with homes that look like they were plucked from Masterpiece Theater. The estate of the late Brooke Astor is on Scarborough Road.
