Another Ossining weekend that deserves its own post!

From the first-ever Ossining BBQ organized by Sing Sing Kill Brewery to the Annual Fall Book Sale at the Ossining Library. Family-friendly events like Fable’s Fall Farmfest, fun activities for music lovers at the Mike Risko Music Store’s 10th-anniversary celebration, the start of the Ossining Halloween festivities at the Forest O’Fears Haunted Hayride, and much more.

– Saturday October 19th –

8:30AM Crafts at the Farmers Market: A free event by Down To Earth Farmers Markets with crafts, music, farms, foodmakers and spirits. It will be an extra-fun day of fall shopping at the farmers market! More info about this event

9:00AM Annual Autumn Book Sale at the library: The Friends of the Library are hosting their ever-popular autumn Something for Everyone book sale, featuring a wide assortment of books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. The book sale will be held over the course of four days (17th-20th) in the library’s gallery. More info about this event today or see schedule all 4 days.

10:00AM Mike Risko Music Store 10th Anniversary:  Come by for breakfast treats, find out about programs, sales and specials in the store, activities for kids, mini-trial lessons and instrument try-me stations! You can even just come by for a cup of coffee and just say hello. More information about this event

12:00PM Big Ossining BBQ at the Ossining Waterfront: It’s not your ordinary BBQ — it’s an inclusive, community-focused, cultural event. The Big-OSS BBQ offers an afternoon of live music, entertainment, craft beverages, & food cooked on an open flame. A local showcase, the Big-OSS BBQ recognizes and aims to celebrate the diversity within Ossining. More info about this event

1:00PM Free Ukulele Class at MRM: As a part of ROCKtober celebrations and Mike Risko Music’s 10 year anniversary, MRM will be offering free ukulele classes in ROCKtober! All ages and levels welcome. More info about this event. More info about this event.

3:00PM Talk Culture Book Club at OPL: This week’s book club book is Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything by Iyanla Vanzant. Copies of the books can be found at the Information Desk. More information about this event.

7:00PM Forest O’Fears, The Haunting at Cedar Lane:  Guests will be guided up a dark, winding trail to a two-story haunted house where they will enter at their own peril. Upon exiting the house, guests will be directed down the trail of horror leading to their final destination – the haunted pavilion. (Please note: The trail will be purposefully confining so anyone who suffers from claustrophobia should refrain from this walk.) Throughout this walk, multiple things will be taking place. We suggest guests be 13 years old and over to participate. More information about this event.

7:30 Low Lily at the Westchester Collaborative Theater: On Saturday, October 19th, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will host an exclusive area appearance of the Vermont-based American roots band Low Lily, a two-time New England Music Awards nominee that has had two #1 songs on international folk radio and was voted #1 Most Wanted at the annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY), a popular event held at the foot of the Berkshires for close to 30 years. 7:30 Doug Murno and La Pompe Attack at the Ossining Elks Lodge: Doug Munro has been around the music scene in NY for over 30 years. He is a fiercely independent musician who has forged his own sound on his own terms. Look at his resume and you will find a guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, author, educator of the highest caliber. Doug has worked with a who’s who of biggest name’s in the NYC music scene over the last three decades. Just when you think you’ve got him figured out he’ll knock down what he’s done and start building in a new direction. In just the last 5 years Doug has made soul jazz records with his organ trio, a solo guitar record recorded live with a loop pedal and a full on Gypsy Jazz CD of Holiday songs. – Sunday October 20th –

9:00AM Ossining Police PBA: 5K run/walk charity event. On Sunday the Ossining Police Benevolent Association (PBA) will be hosting its 3rd annual Ossining PBA Foot Pursuit 5K. This year the course will begin at Market Square, located in Ossining’s historic downtown. Runners will continue through downtown Ossining before reaching Hudson Street which will lead them to the legendary Sing Sing Prison. Runners will run alongside the perimeter of the prison and then down to scenic Louis Engel Park, located at the Ossining waterfront. More information about this event.

10:00AM Fable’s Fall FarmFest: Guests can purchase farm fresh goodies, shop at local artisan vendors, feed the chickens and goats, all while enjoying live music. This year’s event will host some amazing local vendors including Baked By Susan, The Hudson Oven, The Blue Pig, Aji Lima Peruvian Cuisine, Brother’s Fish ‘n Chips, Sing Sing Kill Brewery, Farm Eats, Fi-Dough, KAS Spirits, Mustard Tree, Olde York Farm, LGH Candle Co, Thomson’s Cider Mill, The Westchester Burger Truck, and more! 11:00AM Stories in Stone Sparta Cemetery: The Jug Tavern is collaborating with the Ossining Historic Cemeteries Conservancy to host Stories in Stone ~ Sparta Cemetery. Ninety-minute tours of Sparta Cemetery will be conducted at 11:00AM and 3:00PM by Dana White, Village Historian, and Scott Craven, Town Historian. After the tour we’ll welcome you back to The Jug Tavern for refreshments. More information about this event.
